villians and super Heroes

In Extension Art this term we are creating paintings of AIS teachers as super heroes and villains. We've had lots of laughs trying to get the teachers faces just right and coming up with appropriate super hero powers. Amy from Rm 8 is painting me as a villain! I can shoot rainbows out my paintbrush and wallop people with my palette....so watch out. Super Heroes and Villains include, Mr Crafts, Mr Schaller, Ms Toi-Auta, Ms Campbell, Ms Silao, Mrs Raumoa, Mr Jackett,Ms Street and of course me Mrs Herd. Have a look at how they are going, and see if you can tell who's who.

Look at my Floors

Look at the Floors!
Over the school holidays, Henry one our dedicated teacher aides sanded back and polished my floors. The room now looks like it should be in NZ Home and Garden and the class itself feels warmer. Those who knew what it looked liked before get a big surprise when they walk in. I've only had one disappointed person....a teacher from a client school! She preferred all the swirly colourful paintings Ms McKee had painted on the floor. You can't please everyone though. My favourite comment from students is ,'Miss have you got a new floor?, my answer to that is that its still the same floor, just shinier!

Wednesday 5 June 2013

Welcome to the new art room blog. I'm the new recylced Art teacher Mrs Herd, I'm back at AIS after a 6 year break raising my family. I'm excited about being back in my art room and am enjoying sorting out my classroom and meeting all the new students.
My new yr 8's are creating art works based on animals in mythology, they crafted the wonderful dragons you can see in our title picture.
These were inspired by Mrs Dickinson at Naenae Intermediate, when I relieved for her last year.
We are currently painting animals based in New Zealand myths and Legends. Students have to paint their images using only two primary colours and white. We then outline the paintings in a glossy solution of PVA and Indian Ink.
Next week watch out for students with plasters on the fingers, its time for reduction printmaking!
